Marketers to spend $200 million on advertisement in social games.

Social games are progressively replacing wooden sticks as the new, hip thing to play with. Marketers heard the word and are expected to increase their advertisements in social games over the next few years, according to a new eMarketer report.

They are expected to spend around $220 million on advertisements in social games this year (mobile app ads not included), an increase of 20% over the amount that eMarketer believes companies paid for social game ads in 2009 ($144 million). See the continental breakdown below:

These numbers also have to be put in perspective with another research from Next Up, mentioning that nearly 80% of Zynga's revenues come from the virtual goods machinery.

Interestingly, eMarketer predicts that social game ad spending will be down in the U.S. this year, while it doubled in non-U.S. territories. Both are expected to jump by more than 30% in 2011, which should finally see the demise of the bouncing ball.
